The Sorcerer project came to me with both a switch matrix issue, and a lamp matrix issue. Every time any A-B-C-D light would come on, a corresponding light would appear in the lower playfield. After examining the spec., it became clear that two rows were shorted (1J7-3 and 1J7-4). While examining under the playfield for a shorted wire, I was able to find a ROGUE wire that did not belong. Someone had jumped a 1J7-4 bulb to a 1J7-3 bulb via a wire in order to make it look like all lamps were working. I have no idea why. It just shows that whoever owned this pin, and whoever played it, had no idea how the game should be played. I desoldered the wire from both ends and removed it. I then had to go figure out which part was bad on the board that led to this miserable hack. I was able to determine a resistor was bad, and replaced it with a $.50 part from Fry’s. Sorcerer is now playing 100% correctly. I will now go online and get some 10-packs of the various parts I’ve had to replace and future proof.
